Week 9 - Conversation about Joseph Tisiga

Theme of the week: Art and technology The Audain Art Museum’s Director & Chief Curator, Dr. Curtis Collins, along with the Musée d’art de Joliette Executive Director and Chief Curator, Jean-François Bélisle, discussed the themes of history and technology in the practice of Canadian artist Joseph Tisiga. Joseph Tisiga is a recipient of the 2020 Sobey Art Award. This conversation happened live on the Musée d'art de Joliette Facebook page on May 14, 2020.

Born in Edmonton, AB and raised in Whitehorse, YT, Joseph Tisiga is an interdisciplinary artist of Kaska Dena ancestry, whose practice includes painting, photography, assemblage and performance. Tisiga is constantly exploring different methods of storytelling and narrative devices in his art. Ultimately, such an aesthetic offers reflections on social and philosophical questions around the complexities of identity as well as personal mythology.
